Indianapolis 500 The Indianapolis 500 race is probably the most iconic motorsport event in the world and this year celebrated 100 years since the first race held at the speedway. With more than 300,000 spectators it is also the biggest single day sporting event. 		The atmosphere on race day is electric, with everybody anticipating the action which is about to occur. Indy has a lot of traditions on race day, from Jim Nabors (alias Gomer Pile), singing Back Home in Indiana, through to Mari Hulman George saying those legendary words, "Ladies and Gentlemen START YOUR ENGINES".
As the balloons rise into the air you know there is not long to go. Last year Scott Dixon was the fastest car / driver combination out there. He led the most laps and it looked like it was going to be his race, but the team didn't quite get enough fuel in on the last stop and he had to back off on the last lap. Dan Weldon went on to win a very exciting race when AJ Hilderbrand crashed in the very last turn of the race.
