Pikes Peak Hillclimb

Pikes Peak Hillclimb is the second oldest motorsport event in the United States and dates back to 1916. It consists of a 156 turn, 12.4 mile climb up the spectacular Pikes Peak. The course starts at a height of 9,390ft and climbs to the summit which is 14,110ft. The course consists of a mixture of smooth packed gravel and seal, with aproximately 6 miles of each. As the competitors climb towards the summit, their cars will loose 30% of their horsepower due to the thin air, and drivers have to be able to cope with these atmospheric conditions as well.

Each year entrants from all over the world take on the mighty mountain in the "Race to the clouds". Last year's race was a huge success held in perfect weather with Nobuhiro (Monster) Tajima, driving his highly modified Suzuki, becoming to first person to break the famous 10 minute barrier with a time of 9 min 51.278 sec. Rhys Millen finished 2nd in the Unlimited division in his Hyundai with a very respectable time of 10 min 09.242 sec.

Rhys' father Rod set the fastest 2WD time of 11 min 4.912 sec in Rhys' Hyundai Drift car. The  all time bike record also fell to 28 year old rookie Carlin Dunne, the owner of Ducati Santa Barbara, riding a Ducati Multistrada 1200. His time of 11 min 11.320 sec was actually set on the stores showroom demo bike. Iconic Motorsport Adventures will be putting a package together utilising RV motorhomes for the 2012 Pikes Peak Hillclimb. Situated in the beautiful Colorado Springs region, this tour provides a perfect springboard to go further afield and visit the Rockies, or head cross country towards Las Vegas via the Grand Canyon.
